This post is part of a series on growth hacking (How our startup is growth hacking its way to success… and how you can copy us!)
Marketers are constantly being introduced to new sites and tools as online marketing strategies and tactics continually evolve.
Today we have a new site addition called Quora:
Quora is a Question and Answer engine; a powerful platform that’s organized, created, and edited by its own community, enabling people to find knowledgeable and experienced experts in their own respective field.
Quora has advanced from those users who eagerly embrace new technology to early majority users with a wider range of questions. With a more diverse audience and a larger user base, marketers are now working out how they can use Quora to entice new business.
The true value of Quora rests in the quality of the answers you provide to the community. By offering quality, well thought out answers on Quora, you’re doing three things to draw new business to your company –
- You’re positioning yourself as an expert in your specific field;
- You’re increasing the Search Engine Optimization for your company, and
- You’ll be able to identify potential business leads.
These are three pretty powerful reasons why companies and marketers should invest some quality time into Quora.
In this article you’ll learn the following –
- How to get new customers from Quora, and
- How to elevate yourself to a thought leader in your respective field.
How to Get Customers from Quora – A Strategy
Find appropriate questions that are relevant to the product or service associated with your company.
Next, write your answer to the question. Make sure the answer is completely relevant to the question. Endeavour to tie your product with the answer, at the same time out-teaching your competition. You can add images if necessary, but do spend some time writing out the perfect and complete answer to the question.
It’s okay to sell, but don’t be too pushy.
Establish Yourself as a Thought Leader on Your Topic
This is the very best way to use Quora to help your company get sales leads, because everyone wants to work with the most knowledgeable, or the most qualified.
It’s not going to serve your purpose if you just leave a casual, brief answer to a question on Quora. People won’t trust you (or your answer) and you’ve offered little benefit to the community. Carefully think through your answer and give examples if appropriate: make your readers stop and think about the information you’ve imparted.
Here’s an example of the perfect answer:
This kind of answer is what will get you votes and a lot of notoriety in your chosen field.
Be very selective about the Quora topics you focus on. It can be very time consuming answering questions on Quora, and your time will be best spent on topics that could translate into potential customers.
When readers see your name at the top of answer-threads in your specific field, you’ll create a great reputation for yourself and your sales opportunities will increase.
Look For People Who Could Use Your Help
Remember that if someone is asking a question, they could actually use your help. They would love to hear what you have to say. Certainly, Quora could satisfy some aspects of their question, but that doesn’t mean they have enough information.
Consider following up with them by reaching out personally.
A word of caution though: you must be very tactful with this type of approach because there are many black-hat marketers out there who are constantly spamming Quora, and the community is understandably very much against this. Don’t leave short answers with links back to your blog, then message the user asking for business.
This will do you more harm than good.
The most important point with Quora is that your original content must be very high quality.
Without this, you’re just wasting your time. It might be best not to outsource this job because it’s so important that it be done right – our advice is to perhaps just spend an hour every week contributing and answering new open questions.
You can answer questions such as ‘What’s the best way to get more blog followers’ with a quick response like ‘Your blog should be promoted through Twitter and Facebook’, but don’t answer questions too casually.
In our opinion, Quora is a really great tool with some interesting prospects for marketers. Using Quora you can –
- Increase your SEO visibility;
- Build your online reputation, and
- Locate those people who could really use your service or product.
Again, we want to reiterate that you must give thorough and thoughtful answers. Before even contemplating using Quora as part of your social media marketing strategy, make sure that you have great content.
We get about 100 weekly visitors to Keeping.com. It may sound like it’s little but these prospects are in the market for a helpdesk!
